Generally, your surgeon will schedule your procedure a few days or weeks in advance. There may be various things that need to be completed prior to your day of surgery/procedure, for example: blood test, EKG, or medical clearance. During this period, a RN from the pre-anesthesia department will contact you to review your medical history. After it is reviewed, you may be asked to come in to meet with the anesthesiologist prior to surgery.
You may receive a call from our billing department to review your insurance and billing information.
Transportation - if you are scheduled to receive sedation and/or anesthesia you must make arrangements for a responsible adult (at least 18 years of age) to take you home after your surgery. You will not be able to drive yourself home. You may not be alone for the first 24 hours. The surgery center will cancel or reschedule your surgery if a responsible adult cannot escort you.

In the event you develop a cold, fever, or other illness before the day of your surgery or if you are unable to keep your surgery appointment for any reason, please call your physician immediately so that you may be rescheduled or further evaluated. The Center will call you the afternoon prior to surgery to inform you of your arrival time.
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery (not even coffee, tea, milk or water). Do not chew gum or suck on hard candy. This is important to prevent vomiting during surgery which could have serious consequences for you.

Pre-operative medications - Take only the medication directed by your physician and/or the anesthesia department. (If directed to take medication, do so with a small sip of water. Certain heart, blood pressure and diabetic medications may need to be continued - check with your Doctor.)
